HANG ON, WASN'T THIS A PDRACER WEBSITE?
Well yes it was, and it still is except that the OzRacer started to get a life of it's own and rather than stifle the creative spirit of the PDRacer gang, it seemed a clarification was needed! The OZ Racer no longer conforms to the latest revisions and interpretations of the PDRacer rules, so if for whatever reason you want a died in, the wool genuine PDRacer and you want to build it from scratch using all your own inventiveness, don't forget to check the pdracer.com website to make sure you comply with the rules before you start.
The OzRacer with slight modification and care from the builder can meet all the PDRacer rules too if that's important to you. If you are just looking for a well detailed little boat that sails really well and is easy to build with clear instructions...... well get on with it!
WHAT IS THIS OzRacer?
The OzRacer is super cheap, super simple and super fun, it's simply a great boat for Sail/Row/Outboard propulsion. It really is the cheapest way to go sailing. It can be built by anyone using Michael Storer's great plans, or from kits which are commercially available, and carries two adults or more with ease.
Until now there has not been a good comprehensive plan and instruction set for a boat in this class which would enable a first time builder to guarantee himself a light, strong boat with excellent performance, without the need for any design or experimentation.
Welcome to this website, the OzRacer building instructions, and the OzRacer Family, your world wide support team!
YOU CAN HAVE ONE FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF A BIG NIGHT OUT!
If you've ever had a hankering to sail off into the glorious cruising sunset, or skipper a world class-racing yacht, or just idle time away drifting on an exotic river system, then hang around, because on these pages we will show you how you can do all of that for less than the cost of a big night out!
If you've dreamed about owning a boat, but don't know the first thing about them, the PDRacer is an ideal place to begin.
EVEN IF YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BOATS OR HOW TO BUILD THEM!
If you don't know anything at all about boats or how to build them, you just think you know how hard it is, then the OzRacer plans will fix all that.
If you've never owned any tools, or don't know what a tool is, hopefully by the time we've finished with you, you'll understand that you can build anything with some very basic and inexpensive hand tools, and we'll even show you how to choose the best and cheapest building materials.
HAND TOOLS - BASIC AND INEXPENSIVE
If you are a died in the wool racing cheating thieving type. Welcome to the club, why don't you just go straight to the "rules" section and see if you can find a loophole before you start!
Poke around, enjoy, check out the "news" page often (you can even subscribe to an RSS feed if you know how) and please don't forget to send us your opinions!
PDRacers and Puddleducks
Racers and Duck boats based loosely on the Phil Bolger Brickcome in many forms, and many of them appear to be the result of a good deal of scientific experiment while others can only be explained as the result of witchcraft!
The OzRacer is not a Puddleduck Racer any more, but we still think this site is enormously useful for builders of the PDRacer, or any small craft for that matter as the principals set out apply to any craft.
If you just want the best sailing little boat that doesn't cost a bundle, build an OZ Racer and go sailing!
No matter what variety you choose, they are a lot of fun, and these pages have been assembled solely with a view to showing you just that!
Whether you are a died in the wool experimenter, wanting to do something that doesn't fit in any box, or a sophisticated type looking for a well proven solution (like the OzRacer), we're sure you'll find something of interest in these pages, such as our excellent instructions for sailmaking, centreboard and rudder construction and the wonderful rudderbox which has been proven over three decades of competition use in some very serious racing classes.
Please feel free to use the information on this site or in the OzRacer plans in any way you see fit.
